        With John Velazquez aboard for the first time, Destin took a huge step forward, getting his first stakes win and giving trainer Todd Pletcher his sixth win in the last 10 editions of the Sam F. Davis Stakes. Changes in his equipment, his jockey, and the venue brought out the best in Destin on Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs, where the gray colt rallied from just off the pace to win the Grade 3, $250,000 Sam F. Davis Stakes by 2-1/4 lengths over Rafting.

     Destin impressed again March 12th in the Grade 2, $350,000 Tampa Bay Derby, only one horse could win, and after a thrilling duel that lasted the length of the stretch, it was Destin who scored the biggest victory of his young career. Destin set a track record of 1:42.82 for 1-1/16 miles in taking the Tampa Bay Derby by a length over Outwork, beating the time set by  Bolt Start in the 2010 Challenger Stakes by .01 of a second. Destin, a son of Giant's Causeway  owned by Twin Creeks Racing Stables, has won three of his five starts and has earned $390,700.
