VIDEO ALERT!!! Kentucky Derby Contender Danzing Candy shows his sweet side

                                        SAN FELIPE GRADE 2 STAKES RACE 

Welcome to the party, Danzing Candy you have enough points to be a contender in         the 142nd Kentucky Derby! 

       The Twirling Candy colt was unarmed until November of last year has emphatically announced his arrival on the Triple Crown scene by going wire to wire in the $400,000 San Felipe Stakes run in California. He finished 2  lengths over the favorite Mor Spirit with a beautiful sunny day for racing on March 12th he flew down the back stretch with enough in the tank to finish strongly over the favorite. 

        A maiden winner at second asking in December and a mile allowance/optional claiming February, the colt owned by breeder Halo Farms, in partnership with Jim and Diane Bashor, set the pace with fractions of :22.96, :46.11, and 1:11.04 through six furlongs and shook off a challenge from Exaggerator in the final turn. Then in the stretch of the 1 1/16-mile dirt test, he comfortably held off a late run from Mor Spirit. Exaggerator finished another three-quarter lengths back in third.

        With Mike Smith aboard, Danzing Candy ran a mile in 1:36.38 and finished up in 1:43.04 for trainer Cliff Sise Jr. Although he had a comfortable lead throughout, Smith preempted criticisms that his colt got away with an easy front-running trip. "He didn't get away with anything," the jockey said. "If you go :22 on this track today, you're smokin'. And for him to hold off the caliber of horses he held off—(that) was very impressive." Trainer Cliff Sise Jr. said, "He's three-for-three on this track, why would we change now? I don't see any reason to, but you never know. You've got to leave that up to the owners." "He ran well," Baffert said. "That horse that won is a pretty good horse. ... He's coming on. A mile and an eighth will be more to his liking, but he got a lot out of it today."

                                    SANTA ANITA DERBY GRADE 1 STAKES RACE   

Danzing Candy was bred in Kentucky, out of the Songandaprayer mare Talkin and Singing, and now has a 3-0-0 record from five starts with earnings of $308,650. 

     

       Danzing Candy blazed in the early running—ticking off fractions of :22.15, :45.24 and 1:10.11 through six furlongs—and tired in the stretch to come in fourth, 4 3/4 lengths behind Uncle Lino.

     "I was hoping he'd really take to the mud," said jockey Mike Smith, who rode Danzing Candy. "To be honest with you, as long as I had him up underneath me, he was OK, but as soon as I had to let up and run along, I felt like I was on roller skates out there. He just didn't grab quite a hold of it the way we hoped."

      Danzing Candy clearly dod not like the sloppy California track and did not like the way Exaggerator went past him he seemed to throw in the towel down the stretch but I think if he takes to the track at Churchill downs and the track stays dry he will set the pace and be the one to beat at the wire.

         

                                  

A Yummy Treat for Kentucky Derby Fans: DANZING CANDY has the Stuff!

       DANZING CANDY, a Halo Farms owned in partnership with Jim and Diane Bashor, won his two-turn debut and third start overall by 5 3/4 lengths with ease February 4th at the Southern California Santa Anita racetrack, after winning his braking his maiden at Santa Anita Candy won a 1 mile optional allowance race at Santa Anita. He then went on to win the $400,000 San Felipe Grade 2 Stakes at Santa Anita, 1 and a 16th over the dirt on March 12th. In this romp with Mike Smith aboard, Danzing Candy ran a mile in 1:36.38 and finished up in 1:43.04 for trainer Cliff Sise Jr. Also in this race were Derby hopefuls Exaggerator and Mor Spirit. 
       If you want to see the real Danzing Candy if it stays sunny with a dry track look for him to make the pace very difficult to challenge. The only horse that looked to have enough in the tank to beat Candy was Mor Spirit but Danzing Candy won wire to wire and exaggerator could not find enough to overcome the speeding Candy and finished third. After putting on this show Danzing Candy was asked to repeat in the Santa Anita Derby. But the very soggy track proved to much and Danzing Candy bogged down in the mud and came in fourth behind Exaggerator and Mor Spirit.
     The $1,000,000 Santa Anita Derby was a very sloppy track and at mile and a 8th the course proved to much for the speedster Candy who took off well from the gate and led much of the course but when the speeding Exaggerator flew past him he seemed to throw in the towel and stop running. Mike Smith seemed to just hold on and finish the race in 4th. I hope he was not hurt as it appeared the way he pulled up short. He has not raced since so has had a nice rest waiting for the Derby.
     He is a proven winner and will have a tough field May 7th in the 142nd Running of the Roses. He will need to set the pace and hope he has enough in the tank for Jockey Mike Smith to cruise home. I like this horse he is definitely threat to make the field show their stuff early. We hope he has a sweet trip in Candyland!

DESTIN the Derby Contender 2016: Discussion Pedigree of Destin

             DESTIN is True Blue according to his Pedigree

      Destin is the colt of sire Giant's Causeway out of Dream of Summer. In Europe as a two-year-old in 1999, Giant's Causeway was unbeaten in three races: a maiden race at Naas, the Futurity Stakes at the Curragh and the Prix de la Salamander at Longchamp. In the spring of 2000, Giant's Causeway won the Gladness Stakes at the Curragh and then finished second in both the 2000 Guineas and the Irish 2000 Guineas.

      He won five straight Group One races: the St. James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park, the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, the Juddmonte International Stakes at York and the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.

      His winning sequence was broken in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot. On his final racecourse appearance, Giant's Causeway was sent to the United States to run in  the Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs in which he raced on dirt for the first time. Starting at odds of 7.6/1 he was beaten by a neck  by the American colt Tiznow.

      His performance in 2000 earned him European Horse of the Year honors. His successful foal production in Ireland and Australia led to the stallion going to Coolmore's U.S. unit, Ashford Stud in Versailles, Kentucky. In 2006, he stood for a fee of $300,000.

      On his Dam's side Dream of Summer, was bred for racing and racing she did her parents Siberian Summer and Mary's Dream gave her the power. She ran 12 times and had a record of 7 wins, 4 places and 0 shows. Another highlight for Destin's grey color was from his Dam's genes. Her last race a Grade 1 handicap at Santa Anita she finished a strong 2nd. Dream of Summer, a grade I winner and millionaire for breeder/owner James Weigel.

       Destin was the 7th foal born to Dream of Summer. What does this mean? It is a factor in the odds against Destin's chance to win the Derby but a positive in his factor to come in 2nd or 3rd. I would include Destin in your exacta or trifecta.

WINNER DESTIN / John Velasquez / Todd Pletcher

        With John Velazquez aboard for the first time, Destin took a huge step forward, getting his first stakes win and giving trainer Todd Pletcher his sixth win in the last 10 editions of the Sam F. Davis Stakes. Changes in his equipment, his jockey, and the venue brought out the best in Destin on Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs, where the gray colt rallied from just off the pace to win the Grade 3, $250,000 Sam F. Davis Stakes by 2-1/4 lengths over Rafting.

     Destin impressed again March 12th in the Grade 2, $350,000 Tampa Bay Derby, only one horse could win, and after a thrilling duel that lasted the length of the stretch, it was Destin who scored the biggest victory of his young career. Destin set a track record of 1:42.82 for 1-1/16 miles in taking the Tampa Bay Derby by a length over Outwork, beating the time set by  Bolt Start in the 2010 Challenger Stakes by .01 of a second. Destin, a son of Giant's Causeway  owned by Twin Creeks Racing Stables, has won three of his five starts and has earned $390,700.

Destin the Kentucky Derby Contender can Pletcher find his groove! 11 days to go

         Destin did a nice job winning and Outwork a nice 2n, both impressive winners for trainer Todd Pletcher at Tampa Bay Downs on Feb. 13. Destin also prevailed in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes . They both impressed again at Tampa Bay Downs, March 12th in the Grade 2, $350,000 Tampa Bay Derby, but this time, only one could win, and after a thrilling duel that lasted the length of the stretch, it was Destin who scored the biggest victory of his young career.

I'm proud of both of them."

       It seems Destin is eager to please trainer Todd Pletcher who has saddled 24 Derby contenders and has scored 1 win with his horse Super Saver in the 2010 Derby. Pletcher teams with Destin who was bred in Kentucky by the infamous Taylor Made Farms. His sire is the European Horse of the Year, "Giant's Causeway. And if you want to know where he gets the grey highlights it is from his awesome winning Dam "Dream of Summer" who has line of grey's and it is not a bad thing at all because his Mother was a proven winner. 

       I would believe if Destin is on his game and puts it all together he fits well in this field and could get to the winners circle. Though he is not a great starter he is stable through out the distance and does not flatten when asked to finish. If he finds anything in the tank in his final furlong he could get in the money.
